A Christmas Stocking DIY

“The stockings were hung by the Chimney with care with hopes that St Nicholas soon would be there”. Then Joe declared where is my stocking and we had no clue so I made an emergency one. Well he is a husband now so maybe it was time he got a new stocking.

First of all I gathered my materials. I wanted to make the front quilted so I found some thin wadding too. I also used needed fabric for the lining, the front and the back. I chose the fun green fabric for the lining.
After selecting your fabrics you will need to cut out a stocking template. I drew a shape free hand but you could find a template if you like.
Cut 2 from the lining
Cut 1 each from the front and back fabrics.
Cut one from some fine muslin or cotton and wadding if quilting your stocking.

I used a variety of hand embroidery stitches to decorate the front of the stocking and write Joe’s name.
Once you have finished decorating the front of your stocking place it with the backing fabric (right sides together) and stitch around the edges. Remember to leave the top open of Santa will not be able to get the presents in!

Do the same for the lining. I made the lining stocking pieces taller so that I could fold it over and make a cuff. Place the lining into the outer stocking and hand sew the two together using a ladder stitch.
