Limoncello Recipe

 
I had my first limoncello when I was visiting my husbands family in Malta and was hooked. Just like everyone else I like to bring elements of my holiday back with me, sharing photos recreating recipes drinking something you enjoyed in the sunshine. Unfortunately for me I have expensive taste and limoncello is pricey around £18 per bottle. I decided to try an make my own. It took some trial and error but I think I have it just the way I like it now.

You will need;

8 un-waxed lemons
750ml supermarket value vodka
1lb granulated sugar
500ml water

Method;

  1. Pour the vodka into a large bowl and add the lemon zest and juice of all the lemons. 
  2. In a pan gently heat the water and sugar until the sugar is dissolved.
  3. Add the sugar syrup to the vodka/lemon mixture. Cover with Cling film and leave for 5-7 days.
  4. When you are ready sieve the mixture to remove the lemon bits and decant into to bottles that you can decorate in anyway.
Last but not least enjoy and drink alcohol responsibly!

    Hello Nicolette, thanks so much for this recipe! I made two batches (mostly) for Christmas presents, and it worked really well. But I didn't have room to store a lot of liquid in a bowl so I did it a bit differently, and I thought you might also find it easier.

    I didn't add the sugary water until the very end, when the vodka and lemon juice/zest had infused for a week or two and had been sieved. That way I was able to store the infusing liquid in the original vodka bottle plus one other bottle, so it was a lot easier to store, and less liquid to sieve.
