A Slow Creative Year is a membership community that gives you the space, tools and support that you need to learn how to live seasonally and with the natural rhythm of the world once again and does this in a way that is realistic for you and your life now.
Most of us already know that we will benefit from slowing down and connecting back to our creativity, but we also understand that realistically those things can be difficult to do alongside the business of getting through everyday life. A Slow Creative Year is the missing piece, helping you to bridge the gap between the gentler, more joyful life that you want and where you find yourself now. It is about learning to be intentional with your time, attention and focus in ways to suit you, your current situation, and the way you want to live.
Sometimes we all need someone to show us the way or even just the next step, to tell us that it is ok to put ourselves first, and to invite us to slow down in a way that suits us. That is what A Slow Creative Year is all about.
Sound good to you? Then keep on reading.
A Slow Creative Year is a subscription membership designed around the seasons. The content of each month is carefully created and curated by me, Nicolette, to help you to slow down, to gently connect back to yourself and to enrich your corner of the world. It is hosted in a private Facebook group and based around quarterly hardback books (yep, delivered to you through the post) and monthly emails filled to the brim with seasonal advice, recipes, resources, craft activities and more.
Although this membership is the only way to access me right now it is not another coaching programme. A Slow Creative Year is all about providing you with very real practical projects, advice, and actionable tasks that will allow you to live the kind of lifestyle that you want. It also gives you the opportunity to be a part of a community of humans who have similar intentional life goals to your own.
And, perhaps most importantly, it is designed so that you can take what you need each month. You never have to feel like you must do everything. Slowing down is about recognising what you feel in the moment and getting away from the expectations and external measures of success. If you just dip into a craft activity one month, and a colouring sheet or a recipe in the next month, then that’s ok – that’s taking what you need. The resources, books and emails will be yours to keep and return to as and when you want or need them.
Quite simply because I believe that connecting to the world around us, and to the seasons is an important part of slowing down. It is easy to forget within this industrial world that periods of inaction and of torpor are needed for life to thrive. This is not only to prevent burnout but to generate new growth and new ideas.
Most of my life philosophy is stolen from plants and the wider animal kingdom. For example, I look at plants dying back in the winter as a lesson that we need to stop and wait before we move forward, or that we need to take time to concentrate on the structure of our roots before we can have a full summer bloom.
We can learn so much from the natural world. Even if we live in a city there is no escaping the messages it sends; over tower blocks birds still gather to fly south, trees still lose their leaves and flowers still bloom.
I personally live seasonally and use the natural rhythm of the world to guide my actions and inactions. It really works for me, and this is something I want to share with you through this membership. And no this doesn’t mean that you have to be living in the countryside or in nature for this to work. The tools within this membership are designed for you to take to the actual life you are currently living, whatever and wherever that may be.
For those of you who don’t already know me, hi I’m Nicolette. I am a cottagecore creator of food, a slow living expert, a blogger, a coach, a crafter, a home-schooling mum, a dreamer, and a doer. I have been crafting and cooking for as long as I can remember, and I’ve been writing and talking about them both for a while too.
Over the past 25 years I have worked in overseas development, as a social worker, a community artist, a craft author, a recipe developer and as an educator and during that time two themes have been at the centre of everything I have done: intentional living and creativity. I now run two businesses; Archie and the Rug and Le Weekend, both of which are dedicated to helping others to live slower, more intentional, and creative lives.
I genuinely live my life in an intentional, slow and creative way. My brand values are my personal values. I share what I know, what I have learnt, and what I am sure will help other people, from my flawed human heart. Over recent years I think we have all paid more attention to where we put our time and energy. I created A Slow Creative Year as a tangible way to support others in slowing down and enriching their own corners of the world. If you want to read a bit more about me, click here or have a listen to the Brew and A Biscuit podcast. In recent months I have spoken on BBC Radio Kent a number of times on slow intentional living and have been asked back to do a regular slot over the winter period.

Each of these books is a perfect starting place for anyone who wants to slow down and to live more intentionally and creatively.
Then that’s ok. I’m not here for the hard sell, the pushy salesmanship, or the idea of profiting from someone else’s fears and concerns. A Slow Creative Year is all about living intentionally and creatively whilst upholding the values we each believe are important. Over my life I have become a more responsible human and this membership, my blog and both of my businesses are a reflection of that. I understand that this might not be for everyone, but it will be right for some of you.
Why did you create this membership?
Because these topics are things that I am truly passionate about and I’m hoping that the membership will give people the confidence to really home in on what they want and to go for it.
How do I join?
Simply choose the subscription option that suits you best and click on the sign-up button beneath that option. You can choose from a monthly, quarterly, or annual subscription.
When does A Slow Creative Year start?
In March. On March 1st because my year begins in springtime, with the renewed energy of the season. It is only open for new members each season, spring, summer, autumn and winter intakes.
Will my membership price ever increase?
It is likely that membership prices will increase in the future, however if you join now and continue to stay in The Membership your subscription will remain at the founding member rate that you join on.
If I want to cancel my subscription later, will it be easy to do?
Yes, you can automatically stop your subscription from renewing at any time. If you do this, you will continue to have access to The Membership for whatever period of time you have already paid for but will not be charged again. If you have any concerns, please reach out; email@example.com.
How do I access A Slow Creative Year after I sign up?
You’ll receive an instruction email welcoming you to A Slow Creative Year within 24 hours of joining, and I will send out the physical parts of your subscription (books and other goodies) within 3 days of receiving your order. If you have any concerns, please reach out; firstname.lastname@example.org.
Do I have to do all of the activities every month?
No. You can take what you need each month. You can jump in feet first and try it all or if it seems a bit overwhelming just dip your toe in the water and try the elements you feel the most comfortable with first.
Do the recipes have a load of weird ingredients?
No, all of the recipes have really basic ingredients. I want everything in this membership to be easy and accessible. I personally grow a lot of things in the garden and perhaps in a recipe I will say “then I add lemon thyme”. I know that not everyone will have lemon thyme in their garden, and it is not easily bought so for example where the recipe says that I’ll have also written “if you don’t have lemon thyme just add some lemon juice”.
I’m not great at cooking or don’t have much time to cook, will the recipes suit me?
The recipes are all things that are quick or ideal for batch cooking or stuff that you put in the oven and leave whilst you go and do something else. I can’t make you love cooking, but I can help you to make it easier to fit into your life.
How much time is this likely to take me every month?
The amount of time you spend on this is up to you. Each month you will be given all of the resources, but you always have the choice of what you want to use and try each month. Meaning you can choose to jump in feet first with it all or to begin by trying just the elements that you feel most comfortable with and avoid feeling overwhelmed.
How much support do I get from you?
You will be able to seek advice and ask me any questions that come up in the Facebook group. I will always do my best to answer these within 48 hours.
Does A Slow Creative Year include any coaching?
No, although this membership is the only way to access me right now it is not a coaching programme. You will have the opportunity to ask me questions and get advice in the private Facebook group. The main value of A Slow Creative Year is the projects, advice, and actionable tasks that you will receive with practical support.
How do I contact you if I have any other questions?
If you have any questions about A Slow Creative Year that are not answered on this page, please email me and I will get back to you as soon as I can: email@example.com
