Something we all cease to remember is that December is just the start of Winter. In fact January and February are actually winter too. Yes two whole months of Winter with no Christmas to prepare for and no New Year to compel us to feel like we are embarking on new adventures.

Normally when people talk about taking a winter break they are thinking about hopping on a plane and chasing some sun. Look I love vitamin D as much as the rest of us, maybe more than others but all you need to reset your soul is a holiday somewhere beautiful. This year I spent a long weekend with some friends in the stunning eco build Wild Meadow.

First off you need to check out Andrea’s instagram feed, if this post does not inspire you to book a trip her feed will.

The house was built by Andrea and her husband, the plot was nothing more than a wild meadow, hens the name, and is filled with such beautiful details such as this staircase.

As we were going to Wales in the depths of winter I panic packed and took ALL of the jumpers and, bed socks and hot water bottles. In fact none of those were needed the place was toasty warm. You can sit on the large sofas and feel enveloped by nature due to the perfectly placed full height windows that flank the living area whilst enjoying the wood burning stove.

The whole place is so perfectly designed for you to feel at home. A perfect kitchen with all that you need, welsh blankets draped on the beds and a selection of books and magazine that invite you to embrace slow living.

We were 3 couples, two toddlers and a five year old and there was ample space to enjoy one another in the open plan living area and still have time apart to relax with a book on the sofa or gaze out of the window, and every window deserves a good long gaze.

In the warmer months you can enjoy food from the kitchen garden but we still managed to enjoy it, and the pond on a frosty morning. Sebastian and I spent a morning together taking photos on the grounds.

It is such a wonderful place for children and there is even a selection of wonderful toys for little ones to enjoy, and did I mention the tyre swings that look like horses! Although we went with a gaggle of mini people I can equally see myself enjoying a trip with grown ups, reading books, painting and taking photos. If you are looking for inspiration on what you can do on your trip Andrea writes a lovely blog with lots of lovely suggestions.

Sebastian was thrilled to trek up the hill and peer into the window of “the tiny house”, aka a stunning Shepherds Hut. It was unoccupied during our stay but it is far enough apart from the main house so you would not feel on top of one another.

Sebastian sobbed when we left and we promised we would take him back. What do you think, are you convinced that a January holiday is for you? If the answer is yes then I cannot recommend Wild Meadow highly enough but try not to clash with us as we will return!
