One of my favourite things to do is wrap all the Christmas gifts in one fell swoop and listen to Christmas songs and drink mulled cider, I’ll add a recipe soon. I’m not a big drinker but at Christmastime I somehow feel it is acceptable to have a mulled cider at 11am. Shhh don’t tell anyone I’m not sure how okay it is.
Here are my top 5 favourite Christmas songs;
Oh Holy Night is one of my all time favourites and is guaranteed to make me cry when I hear it. Joe will tell you that I will cry at the drop of a hat at a Christmas movie and he would be right. That be said this is still an emotive song and this version is performed in the unique way that you expect from Sufjan Stevens.
This song has been my favourite since childhood for me it encapsulates Christmas perfectly. It is fun and silly and has a really catchy tune. Some of the lines in it are perfect such as, “are you waiting for the family to arrive. Are you sure you’ve got the room to spare inside” My house is always over filled, spare chairs perched around the table at different heights and no elbow room at the table. I wouldn’t have it any other way! This song also now reminds me of my little sister when she was a baby. She would put it on over and over again and walk around in circles to dance in a tigger costume – very cute.
Well need I say more it is the most wonderful time of year because once a year people make that extra effort. I am a true believer that we should be nice and charitable everyday but it still fills me with that fuzzy warm feeling when I reminded that people have kindness and grace in them. Plus Andy Williams is awesome.
I love this song it has all the elements as the Slade tune. A jazzy happy tune, a Christmas essential and a nice sentiment. I wish it could be Christmas everyday so that we would always be reminded to go that extra mile and spend lots of time with friends and family. What is your favourite aspect of Christmas?
This is a great song by the still missed John Lennon. I think the sentiment of this song is so apt and especially poignant now when there are so many peoples children at war and away from their families.
