Simple sock craft – diy

I really love the funky fingerless cuffs that are in fashion right now. I feel the cold and like to wrap up but as I am taking a photograph every few minutes I need to be ready to shoot and I just can’t work my camera when my fingers are covered up so fingerless is the way to go for me.
Call it what you will up-cycling, make do and mend, making something new from something old that would normally be thrown away is hugely satisfying. My long stripy socks were in good condition apart from one obvious problem, a hole in the toe area. This made them a perfect candidate for my cuff craft.
To make your own you will need a pair of long socks that are damaged in the foot area or you just fancy giving a makeover to. Lay them flat and cut off the foot area. It was easy for me to cut straight as they were stripy socks.
Once you have cut your feet off the socks simple fold a small hem inwards and blanket stitch all the way around. If you are unsure how to do a blanket stitch I found a little tutorial video on you tube for you to follow. I really should start doing these myself…watch this space, (she says whilst holding her breath and adding it to her to do list).
Put your hands in and measure where your thumb will go. Overstitch this a few times and tie off. Now you are done all that you have left to do is sit back and enjoy your creations.

These socks are very nice and my son loves them but they do seem to run a little small. I bought the L/XL and my son has about a size 9.5 foot and they seem a little short for him, but he loves them so I think just my size socks are a good buy!
