Homemade Body Butter

A few weeks ago I made my own facial/body scrub from cornmeal and I got the bug for creating my own beauty products. I confess I am addicted to moisturiser I don’t know when enough is enough and often apply so much moisturiser after a bath that I am beyond saturation point. I honestly believe that on day Joe will go to give me a hug and I will shoot straight out of his arms like a bar of soap. I have issues. I could get over those issues or find a cheaper way to deal with my habit – I chose the later.
I bought all of my ingredients online and they were really inexpensive and there were loads of on line shops out there to choose from so you should not have a problem sourcing stuff.
You will need;
500g Shea Butter
250g Coconut Oil (cosmetic grade)
200g Cocoa Butter
20ml Avocado Oil
15ml Vitamin E Oil
Bergamot Essential Oil (which has a citrus smell you can use your own combination for smell)
Method;
  1. Melt the 2 solid butters and the solid coconut oil in a pan over a low heat. Once they have melted remove from the heat.
  2. Add the vitamin E oil and the avocado oil to the mixture and leave to cool.
  3. Once the mixture becomes opaque again but is still liquid add the essential oils you are going to use and whisk to give a creamy aerated texture.
  4. Now you can decant to jars to keep or give as gifts.
This recipe makes a huge amount of a really rich butter so it will last for ages and is cheaper than buying the alternative in stores. In the Body Shop you can pay £12.50 for 200ml of body butter and the more natural exclusive stores it can cost more. So now I can put on so much moisturiser I could probably swim the channel, well if I was a better swimmer but you get my point.

Take Care

    What a gorgeous idea, I'll definately be trying this one.:-)

    Just be careful if you use Bergamot essential oil and go out in the sunshine (if we ever get a summer this year!) as it makes your skin more sensitive to UV. Don't want you to burn. X

    Hello Clare

    Thank you the tip with the essential oil I know nothing about their properties I just pick ones with smell I like. I know pregnant ladies have to extra careful as to what oils they use.

    Cheers xo
