I have been immersing Sebastian in books since he was born and guess what it has paid off. I love that he will ask to have story time, picks his own books and we talk about the themes in the stories. I love reading and really hope that this is a beginning of his love of reading. I wanted him to be able to have access to his books and see them so the chimney breast in the playroom seemed the obvious choice.
It is really important to display books so that little ones so that they can see the front covers therefore creating two picture ledge shelves looked like the obvious choice but there was nothing solid to drill into at the back so I had to think of a way to fix them at the side.
When you work full time as a blogger/writer/influencer/marketer/tutor, yeah feel free to add more roles to that list and you are renovating a house with a rambunctious three year old speed is key with any project. Whilst I look for speed I am not willing to compromise on the quality of construction or the safety of a project. I was very happy to team up with Gorilla Glue. I read a huge number of US blogs so I am often aware of products before long before they hit the European market and I had been drumming my fingers waiting for this one. As you can see I might be busy but I am never short of a pair of mini helping hands!

For the shelves themselves I used 18inch ply, I had some lying around and it is tough, really tough. The truth is I just love ply. I had some pine lying around too, it is just that sort of house. After measuring the space I painted the parts of the shelves in Farrow & Ball Wevet to match in with the rest of the woodwork in the room. Once this was done and dry I used Gorilla Heavy Duty Grab Adhesive to attach the front ledge and enable me to stack books on them. I used L brackets to attach the shelves into the space.

I am am really happy with them, they look great, Sebastian likes having full access to his books and easily choose a story for book time. I look forward to bringing you more Gorilla glue projects from around the home.
